What is FOCUS?

FOCUS is not about religion, it's not about burdens and restrictions and laws and boredom. It's about real life and truth. Yes, it's about God, but thank God it's about what God did for you in Jesus. In short, FOCUS is all about Jesus!

FOCUS stands for the Fellowship of Christian University Students. We've been running since 1990 and meet at the ANU, UC, and ADFA. We are affiliated with AFES (check out www.afes.org.au for more info) and IFES (www.ifesworld.org). Over the years, hundreds of students have benefited from participating in the FOCUS community. We are aiming under God to grow together in our understanding of who God is, and what he has done for humanity in Jesus. We are an open, non-denominational community that wants the reality of Jesus to be discovered, enjoyed, and passed on to others

Some of the things that happen at FOCUS include: weekly Bible talks, small group Bible studies, 1 to 1 Bible reading and prayer, training, prayer meetings, conferences, missions and social events.

Statement of Beliefs

FOCUS upholds the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, including:

* The divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture as originally given and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
* The unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.
* The universal sinfulness and guilt of humanity since the fall, rendering men and women subject to God's wrath and condemnation.
* The conception of Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and his birth by the virgin Mary.
* Redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only though the sacrificial death, as our representative and substitute, of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God.
* The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
* The necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective in the individual sinner, granting him or her repentance towards God, and faith in Jesus Christ.
* The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the believer.
* The expectation of the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

FOCUS is committed to getting students together to hear and understand the message of the Bible. We have theologically trained staff on our campus', as well as former students who give of their time and energy to serve the current students. Our great desire is that students come to understand the wonder of the gospel of Jesus, and joyfully devote their lives to serving His kingdom.

Main Meeting Each week we run a lunchtime meeting. Lots of things happen at our meeting, the most important thing is the Bible talk and the discussions we have afterwards that help us think through what the message of the Bible is. Our speakers are devoted to explaining what the Bible has to say and helping to apply it to our lives here and now. See the campus specific pages above for the times and locations.

Weekly Bible Studies We also have several small groups meeting in various locations each week. These Bible study groups are a great way to reflect further on God's message for us and to grow in knowledge and love of God. You can find the times on the campus specific pages above.

One to one Bible reading and Prayer Being at university gives you plenty of opportunities to encourage others in their walk with Jesus. One of the key ways that we see this happening on campus is through one to one Bible catch-ups. The idea of these is to meet to read the Bible and talk about it with another person. It's really encouraging to talk about what the Bible passage means and how it makes an impact on your life, and then to pray about it.

FOCUS In Training We are also keen to spend time being trained in how to read, understand and teach the truths of the Bible. Over the year we get together for various courses and workshops designed to equip students in sharing their faith and serving God’s kingdom.

Prayer Meetings We are able to have a personal relationship with our loving God and Father. What a privilege! Which means we can come before Him in prayer. At FOCUS, we are committed to prayer and so regularly gather together to pray.

Missions Although all our FOCUS meetings are public meetings, open to all, we also have heightened evangelistic activity at key moments in the year. This is a chance for students to invite their friends along to hear the gospel for themselves and for FOCUS to engage the campus in the public space.
